Supporting the Newman Center

Through the gracious support of many, the Newman Center at the University of Iowa is blessed to be financially independent of any outside church institutional support. We rely on the continued generosity of the students, parents, alumni and friends like you.

The Newman Center is able to provide a dedicated facility located in a prime location near the University campus for the students, faculty and staff to gather and worship. Our Center also serves one of the largest active Catholic student populations in the United States, with over 1200 students regularly participating each semester.   Through our campaign, Securing Their Future….Reaching Their Potential, investments in the facility, outreach, education and other ministries will allow us to continue to grow and expand our offerings.

If you would like to set up a recurring contribution using electronic funds transfer from your checking or savings account to any of these funds, please download the Electronic Funds Contribution Form.

We are most grateful to all who support our ministry. May they be blessed for sharing with us. Our mission is to prepare good Catholic professionals to be disciples for the Church and the world. What a great challenge and opportunity!

Securing Their Future…Reaching Their Potential – Campaign Goal $4,000,000
The Newman Center has purchased the land and building in order to secure the current location for future generations of Catholic students, faculty and staff.  To support the increasing population and deepen the Catholic education the Center can offer, two endowments will also provide additional outreach, education and ministries support.  To conduct the campaign and to establish a sustainable development and giving process, a full time development director position will also be funded for five years.  Contributions to the campaign may be made in any increment one time or pledged over a five year period.  You may give a gift to the campaign online now!  To make a pledge commitment, please download the Securing Their Future” Pledge Form and set up your recurring contribution using your credit card or checking/savings account. To learn more, visit the Securing Their Future campaign page.

Annual Appeal
The Newman Center Annual Appeal is a most important source of the ongoing support we need to provide our ministry to the Roman Catholic students at the University of Iowa and keep the facility in good condition. Each fall we include this appeal in our newsletter. Our alumni, parents and friends have been most generous over the years and we are most grateful.  During our campaign, it is important that we continue to receive donations to ensure operations continue. You can a make a one time or recurring donation either online, by electronic funds transfer, or sending your contribution to the Newman Center.  Those who have contributed, or make a pledge to contribute, $5,000 or more to the Annual Appeal over time are invited to become members of the Founders Club.  After the total giving reaches $5,000, members are asked to give a yearly gift to the Annual Appeal of at least $250.  If you are interested in joining the Founders Club, please contact Fr. Ed Fitzpatrick, Director.

Fellowships and Scholarships
The Newman Center established an endowment fund in 2000 that provides financial grants for students interested in being Ministry Development Fellows or Catholic Studies Scholars.  Fellows are named in 4 areas: Bible study, Justice and Peace, Music Ministry, and Student Outreach.  Scholars apply to research a topic of their selection that interfaces Catholic principles and professional life and provide seminars to share their information with fellow students.  Ongoing contributions to these programs will allow us to expand both the remuneration and number of positions offered each year. You can a make a one time or recurring donation either online, by electronic funds transfer, or sending your contribution to the Newman Center.  To learn more about these programs, please visit Fellowships and Scholarships for program descriptions, applications, and to meet our current recipients.

Newman Singers
Music is vital to the faith life of young people.  The Newman Singers is a liturgical and concert group consisting of Newman Center student musicians and vocalists led by the talented director, Joe Mattingly.  In addition to providing liturgical music for the Newman Center, the group has toured the country annually since 1991, building a reputation for leadership in contemporary liturgical and inspirational music.  The Newman Singers serve many missions – deepening the faith and building life-long relationships among student participants, ministering to the Newman Center community, and reaching out to communities across the United States as a witness to the love of God.  Funding provides for ongoing operation, equipment, travel  and other operational expenses for the group.  Contributions to the Newman Singers may be made by sending your check to the Newman Singers Ministries, Inc. and mail it to the Newman Center c/o Joe Mattingly. The Newman Singers Ministries, Inc. is a registered 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. Donations are tax-deductible in accordance with IRS rules and regulations.

Offertory
Weekly offertory supports the ongoing operational expenses of the Newman Center.  In addition, a 5% tithe of your gifts to the Center is given each week to charity.  Two organizations are selected each week during the school year from a number of local, regional and global charities to receive a portion of the weekly offertory.  The recipients are listed in the weekly bulletin. You can a make a one time or recurring donation either online, by electronic funds transfer, or sending your contribution to the Newman Center.

Planned Giving – Members of the Foundation
Leave your legacy by making a gift in your will to friends, family and charitable organizations. Please contact Fr. Ed Fitzpatrick, Director of the Newman Center, or John Baer, Development Director, to discuss how you may include the Newman Center in your estate and tax planning.  Gifts may include cash, securities, property, life insurance policies and more.  By planning your gift, you can ensure it is applied to specific areas such as an endowment or special ministry.  We can help provide a gift plan that benefits you and your family, offers immediate and/or long term tax advantages to both you and your heirs, and has a meaningful impact on the students, faculty and staff ministered to by the Newman Center.  The Newman Center recognizes those who have made planned gifts by engraving their name on a brick on our Memorial Wall.
